Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek is the classical trekking route to the heart of Everest region which was used by the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary in their Mt. Everest expedition in 1953. It is one of the popular trekking trails in the world which offers the combination of natural and cultural beauty. You arrive in Kathmandu and you meet our representative in the airport who will take you to your hotel in the heart of Kathmandu. Overnight at hotel.

Today you visit different historical and cultural sites of the Kathmandu valley with our guide. In the morning after having breakfast you go visit Buddhist and Hindu temples Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, which reflect the local culture and tradition of Nepalese society. Then in the afternoon you visit Kathmandu Durbar square and Patan durbar square. In the evening you will return to the Hotel.

This day early in the morning we take bus to Jiri through Araniko Highway. We cross the typical Newari villages of Dhulikhel and Banepa. After crossing these villages we can see the excellent panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas, including Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung and Dorjee Lakpa. From Dolalghat we head north following the Sunkoshi River. We finally reach Bhandara where we stay overnight.

On this day also we walk uphill and downhill to reach Sete, a small village. We cross Likhu Khola (River) and follow it to Kenja and then we ascend to Chimbu. We continue climbing up to Sete.

From Sete we gradually ascend to the Lamjura Pass (3530m.). From the Lamjura Pass we can see the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. We cross it and then descend through the rhododendron, fir pine, magnolia, maple and birch forest and finally reach Junbeshi.

This day we cross the Junbeshi Khola and then walk in the ascending slope through the forest. After some hours of climbing we see the amazing view of the mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Nupte, Makalu, Thamserku, Mera Peak, and many more. We continue the trail to Salung and then descend to Ringmo Khola. Again we walk up hill and cross Trakshindo La pass and finally descend down to Nunthala through the conifer and rhododendron forests, and terraced fields.

This day also we continue climbing down to the Dudh Koshi River. Then we follow the Dudh Koshi River and walk up ward to Khumbu. Then we climb to Jubing. From there we walk straight and descend to cross a suspension bridge and finally ascend to Bupsa Danda.

From Bupsa we continue ascending up to Bhumsing through a tributary valley filled with prickly leaned oak and rhododendron forest. Then we continue walking north side of the valley to reach Puiyan (2796m.)

We continue our walk ascending on the ridge for 1 hour and then descend through another ridge to Sukhe situated on a tributary of the Dudh Koshi. Crossing the tributary we continue to Phakding.

From Phakding the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River and reaches Zamphuti. From here we can see excellent views of Thamserku peak. Then the trail climbs to Chomoa, the site of an agricultural project, an interesting place to have a look around and gain an insight into the farming way of life of these people. From Chomoa, the trail again climbs to Monjo (2840m.) and enters the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park (1148sq km, established in 1976). Walking some distance uphill you will be at Jorsale (2830m.) and after a long climb with views of Mt. Everest peeking over the ridge of Nuptse (7879m.) the trail reaches the street of Namche Bazaar. Stay at Guest house- Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast. O/N at Namche Bazaar (3420m.).

Today we take rest for the proper acclimatization with some excursion. We can hike to the Everest View Hotel, the ideal place to overview some of the outstanding mountains such as Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse etc. You can walk around the Khumjung valley, Hillary School and Khunde Hospital and then return back to Namche. In Namche Bazaar you can spend some time interacting with the fun-loving Sherpa and Rai people.

This day we leave Namche bazaar and walk for some time along the ridge and then descend to Dudh Koshi River at Phunkithanka. Then after crossing the bridge, we ascend in the steep path up to the Tengboche. On reaching Tengboche you will see the local monastery. Tengbohe has the largest Monastery in the Khumbu region. Overnight at Guesthouse.

From Tengboche the trail drops to Debuche, crosses another exciting suspension bridge on the Imja Khola, and climbs to Pangboche amongst thousands of Mani stones. Our uphill trek continues, taking us to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche with its exquisite views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. We take our time so we avoid getting affected by the altitude. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Today you can enjoy another day for acclimatization. We will have trip to Chhukung valley via the Imja Khola valley to get a marvelous view of the surrounding mountains, especially Lhotse’s massive south wall, then return to Dingboche in the evening. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Today, the trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. We continue to climb as we are heading to the altitude of 4910 meters at Lobuche which is really just a few huts at the foot of giant Lobuche peak. Some breathing problems may arise today due to altitude. Overnight at Guesthouse.

This is another big and difficult day walk along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at 5365 meters, the closest you can get to Mt. Everest without mountaineering equipment. There will likely be a team there about to attempt the summit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is spectacular. We return back to Gorak shep for the night. Overnight at Guesthouse.

This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. In the morning we climb Mt. Kala Pattar, a small peak. From Kala Pattar we can see the most magnificent mountain panorama of Everest, the highest point on the planet at 8848 meters, towers directly ahead and other giants, Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and countless others. We make a quick descent to Gorak Shep, a tiny hamlet at 5180 meters then trek down to Pheriche. Overnight at guesthouse.

Jiri To Everest base camp Trek Difficulties

You need to have the ability to walk for around 4 – 7 hours with a rucksack in your back. However, some days might also require you to walk for 8 – 9 hours. While you walk at high altitudes, you will realize how demanding it is to walk only a few meters. Jiri lies at 1,905 meters and the Everest base camp is in 5360 meters which is above sea level.
